Mrs. Hannah Hopkins.
Hannah Jones was born in Mechanicsburg, Ohio March 15, 1824, being the oldest daughter of William and Rhoda Jones.
In 1848 she married Mr. Thos. H. Hopkins and in 1849 they moved to Van Buren county, residing for a time at Mr. Sterling and Keosauqua, and since 1853 having been a resident of Bonaparte. During all these years she has won the respect of all and the love of many.
Her husband died in 1901 and since that time she has lived in the old home which was made a source of peace and comfort to her by the love and care of her daughter, Mrs. Ida Stafford.
Of late years she has been called upon to bear a double burden through failing sight and hearing but she carried her burden in the true Christian spirit of cheerfulness and resignation. Although deprived of meeting within the house of prayer she realized in a very true sense that her home could become both home and sanctuary, and thus she made it.
She passed peacefully away Saturday evening, Sept 2, at twenty minutes to six, in a good age being 87 years, 5 months, and 7 days old.
Their remain to mourn their loss two sons and three daughters: -- T. H. Hopkins of Seattle, Wash; C. C. Hopkins of Forsyth, Mont., Mrs. H. J. Kerr of Uremerton, Wash., Mrs. B. A. Spruanee of Denver, Colo.; and Mrs. Ida. M. Stafford of Bonaparte; also ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at the late home Thursday afternoon with Rev. Jas. Clark, a former pastor, officiating in the presence of many friends who had come to pay their last tribute of respect. Interment in Bonaparte cemetery.
