Robt. T. Delaney was born in Wheeling, W. Va., March 15, 1849, and died in Bonaparte, Iowa, Aug. 7th, 1911, aged 62 yrs, 4 months and 22 days. At the age of 5 her was left an orphan.
In 1851 he with his foster parents, James Miller and wife, moved to a farm about six miles northeast of Farmington, in Lee Co. where he grew to manhood. On Jan. 18, 1872 he was united in marriage to Nancy J. Ross. There were born to this union two sons; Wm. H. and Albert R. In 1881 they moved to Van Buren Co. 2 miles East of Cantril, Ia., where they made their home for a number of years. The wife and mother departed this life July 14, 1898.
On Mar. 20, 1901 he was united in marriage to Hannah Payne; since which time they have made their home in Cantril, Ia. The deceased united with the M. E. Church in his early manhood and has been a faithful follower ever since.
At the time of his death was a member of the official board at Cantril, and had shown his interest in the Church by subscribing to all her improvements and work. He leaves to mourn his loss; his wife, two sons, and their wives; and four grand children, besides a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral services were from the M. E. Church, Cantril, Wednesday Aug. 9. Sermon by the Pastor, Rev. Tennant, music by a chorus choir with Mrs. C. C. Hoskin at the piano. The pall bearers were old friends of the deceased, viz W.L. Cretcher, A. Huggins, Ben Fisher, Geo. Hatch, Wm. Miller and S. E. Foster. It was a large funeral and in token of the esteem in which he was held most of business houses closed during the hour of the service. The interment was held in the Cantril Cemetery.
