Mrs. Augustine Perkins.
Rhoda Marsh Wildman, oldest daughter of James and Almira Wildman, was born Oct 25, 1829, in Ripley county, Indiana, and died Feb. 9, 1907. Her age was 77 years, 3 months and 15 days.
On March 15, 1846, she was married to Augustine S. Perkins. To them seven children were born. Three survive viz: - James Francis Perkins of Mt. Zion; Louis J. Perkins of Lewiston, Idaho; and Mrs. Mary A. Rowe of Keokuk. The four who are deceased are, Chas. D. who died April 17, 1892: George A. whose death occurred May 11, 1905: Ira A., who died August 22, 1902, and Martha A., who died Nov. 4, 1878.
There are 25 grand-children grand-children and 9 great great grand children.
Mrs. Perkins was the sole remaining member of her family the others having died young, the last, forty years ago.
In the fall of 1854, she with her husband and family came to Van Buren from Indiana, setting on an unimproved far a mile and a half north of Utica. The county has evern since been her home.
Mr. Perkins death took place Oct. 23, 1892.
In her young womanhood, Mrs. Perkins became a member of the Baptist church. Her life adorned the profession of faith in her Saviour, thus early made. She earnestly endeavored to "put her creed into her deed" and with such success that her kindred, one and all, "rise up and call her blessed".
Funeral services were held at Utica Tuesday, Feb. 12, Rev. Perkins officiating. She was a very old resident having been here for more than fifty years.
