Harry Streator Morrison

Harry Streator Morrison son of William H. and Sarah Sperry Morrison, was born Feb. 13, 1889, and departed this life Wednesday June 21, 1967, at Memorial Hospital in Keosauqua at the age of 78. Most of his life was spent in the Douds community. On September 1, 1909, he was married to Grace Cree at Ottumwa. She preceded him in death in 1958. Three infant grandsons also preceded him in death, as well as several brothers and sisters. Remaining to mourn his passing are a daughter, Marie (Mrs. Clair Hern) of St. Louis, Mo.; Four sons, James C. of Cleveland, Ohio; William Cree of Rock Island, Ill; Lucein Rodney of St. Louis; and Harry Jr. of Columbia, Missouri; Fourteen grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Florence Moore of Davenport, several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

For a time during World War 1 the family lived in the Quad Cities. They returned to Douds where Mr. Morrison operated a harness and shoe shop and service station for many years.
He was a Past Master of Celestial Lodge No. 413, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons and a member of Twin City Chapter No. 258, Order of the Eastern Star. He was active in community affairs as long as his health permitted and was particularly interested in mucical activities, both as a participant and as a spectator. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father and grandfather the head of a closely knit family. Funeral services were held Friday, June 23, 1967, at 1:30 p.m. at the Pedrick Funeral Home, with the Reverand Dennis Nicholson Methodist Pastor officiating. Interment was in the Zion Luthern cemetery, with Masonic graveside rites and Masonic pallbearers.
