Sarah Hellyer - Keosauqua Republican April 12, 1906

Sarah Hellyer was born in Ross county Ohio, Dec 12, 1830, and died April 5, 1906. She was married to William Morrison in 1849, (Noble, Morgan co. Marriage records show 28 Sept 1848) and to them were born seven children, four boys and three girls, one boy and one girl dying in infancy. They moved to Iowa in Sept., 1858, settling in Van Buren county, where she since lived. In 1863 William Morrison died (civil war, post hospital, Port Hudson, La. 12 Aug 1863). In 1865 she married Eli Scotton, and to them were born three children.
(James Nelson Scotten, Eli Willis Scotten and Hiram Eugene Scotten)Funeral services were held from the Pittsburg church, after which she was laid to rest in the nearby cemetery. The children have the sympathy of all their neighbors. May the good Lord sustain them in this their great affliction. J.W.C.
