Emmett F. Morrison, son of William Andrew and Sarah Hellyer Morrison, was born in Ohio, 18 Aug 1855, and passed away following a brief illness at his home near Keosauqua, Feb 10, 1939, aged 83 years, 5 months, and 23 days. At an early age he came to Iowa with his parents and settled in Van Buren county where he spent practically his entire life. He was married to Susannah Elizabeth Hollen, Oct 10, 1875. To this union nine children were born, seven of whom survive, two children having passed away in infancy. He united with the Methodist church at Pittsburg and when he moved into the Center Chapel neighborhood 28 years ago transferred his membership to the Center Chapel Methodist church (1911) where he remained a faithful and devoted member until the time of his death. Mr. Morrison was a home lover and took special pride and delight in his home and family upon whom he lavished his affections. He was especially proud and happy last Oct. 10 when the entire family, togeather with friends and neighbors came with well filled baskets, good wishes and congratulations to rejoice with him and Mrs. Morrison in the celebration of their 63rd wedding anniversary. Mr. Morrison was a hard working, consciencious citizen, a good neighbor and loyal friend. His cheerful good will, his friendly disposition, his upright character, his integrity and honesty of purpose won for him the love and respect of all who knew him. He will be sadly missed in the home, the church and the neighborhood where he had a host of friends. Besides his loving companion of the years, he is survived by seven children, Ella at home;, H. I. Morrison ( Howe Irving) of Wheatland, Wyoming, R. L.(Roy Lester) Morrison of Carthage, Ill, Mrs. H. J.(Harry John) Dodds, (Minnie Minerva Morrison Dodds), of Bonaparte, B. W.(Bert William) Morrison of Stockport, Ray E.(Ray Emmett) Morrison of Douglas, Wyoming, and Mrs. C. E. Funeral services were held from the Center Chapel Methodist church Sunday afternoon, Feb 12, 1939, with the Rev. C. Hugo Orf, pastor of the church officiating. Interment was in the Pittsburg cemetery. A quartet consisting of Mrs. Harry McIntosh, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Wolfe, and Keith Gaston, accompanied by Mr. Cyrus Kingsbury, furnished the music. Eight grandsons served as pall bearers. The children were all present for the funeral except Howe of Wheatland, Wyoming.
