Charles Rohdy 1843-1932

Charles Rohdy, son of Fred and Caroline Rohdy, was born in Braunschweig, Germany, October 29, 1843; crossed the ocean with his parents and came to this country when he was a child of eleven months. Child and family came directly to Lee county, Iowa, where he lived until his brief sickness of two weeks overpowered him and called him to his eternal reward May 16, 1932 (at 8 p.m.) having attained the age of 83 years, 6 months, and 18 days.

It is very probably that as a child, Mr. Rohdy was baptized in Germany. He was confirmed however by Rev. Mehrbitz in the Evangelical Church at Farmington. On Sept 15, 1877, he united in marriage at Fort Madison, Iowa, to Katherine Roth, who lives to mourn his passing. To this union were born seven children, all living, namely: Jacob Rohdy, Peter Rohdy, Louis Rohdy, Mrs. Anna Schau, Mrs. Mary Boyer and Grover Rohdy all of Farmington, Iowa, and Mrs. Ida DeRosear of Fort Madison, Iowa.

He is likewise survived by 32 grandchildren, two great-grandsons; and many other relatives and friends. He was the youngest of a family of nine, all of the rest of the family having preceeded him in death; he was likewise preceeded in death by one grandchild.

Mr. Rohdy was a faithful member of Zion’s Evangelical Church at Primrose, Ia. for approximately 55 years; having been, when able, faithful in attendance and faithful in his support. He was likewise a good and ever faithful father and a true husband, which truth almost speaks for itself in view of the fact that Mr. and Mrs. Rohdy have this year been married 55 years a constant witness to an ideal home life.

Funeral services were held at Zion Evangelical church, Primrose, Wednesday afternoon, Rev. Glenn Marteson in charge.
