A Mother Sleeps.
Died, October 27, 1901, at the home of her son, F. L. Eason in this city, Mrs. Mary A. Eason. Deceased had been ill some 36 hours but as she did not complain no serious thought was given it, until Sunday morning. Mrs. Eason was down town Friday evening and seemed as well as usual with the exception of a slight cold. Saturday French insisted that medical aid be procured and he himself went to a physician and described the case and received medicine. On Sunday morning a physician was called and after a brief examination announced that every indication pointed to pneumonia and although strenuous efforts were made to check the terrible malady, acute pneumonia developed and at 6:15 that evening death resulted. She was surrounded by relatives when the end came and it seemed so sad that they must watch her pass away and could do nothing for relief. She was 61 years and 27 days old and had lived her allotted three score years of usefulness. Mrs. Eason first became a resident of this place in 1856 and in 1874 with her husband started the Eason hotel which made a prosperous run until 1895 when fire destroyed the building and on the death of her husband which occurred shortly after she with the family retired to private life. She was the best of mothers and was a woman well beloved for her kindness of heart.
The funeral services are set for Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock and will be held at the house.
A sad incident in connection with the death of the mother is the fact that the daughter Miss Clyde had less than a week before started for the west and it is thought that she will be unable to get here in time for the last sad rights. Later--A wire from Miss Clyde announces that she will reach here Thursday morning.
The son French and wife, brother Ross Cresap, and three sisters, Mesdames Maggie Meek, a Laura Heckle and Sarah Coolidge were present at the last moment.
