Died, at her home East of Bonaparte, on Monday, Dec. 2, 1901, Mrs. Mary Agnes Scheyli, at the advanced age of 71 years 10 months. Funeral services were held from the home on Wednesday, Dec. 4, interrment [sic] being made in the Bonaparte cemetery.
Deceased had long been a resident of this neighborhood and was well and favorably known. She was born in Heidershein Baden, Germany on February 2, 1831 and left her native land for the States, April 21, 1849, landing in America, June 16. From New York City she journeyed to Mansfield, O., and on September 24, of the same year journeyed to St. Louis where six years later she met and subsequently married William Scheyli, on December 1, 1856. Shortly after the ceremony the company left for Keokuk, where they remained until March 19, 1865 when they moved to Bonaparte, where she has since resided.
She was the mother of four children, three of whom survive her, and are Ollie C., Wm. E. and Joseph F., the youngest son Benjamin, together with the husband has preceded her across the dark river. Besides the children, there are left to mourn her departure, two sisters and a host of relatives and friends.
The pall bearers were made up of her nephews and were R. H., Chas. and J. S. Allgeyer and M. Kunz.
Those of the relatives from abroad who attended the funeral were: R. H. Allgeyer, of Alexis, Ill., and Chas., J. S. and Nora Allgeyer of Winterset, Io.; Mr. and Mrs. M. Kuntz of Sherman, Wash.; Mrs. Mary Much of Keokuk and William Scheyli of Milton.
For a long time, the deceased had been suffering with a painful affliction, but she was ever cheerful and did much for the comfort of friends who watched by her. She had lived here so long that almost everyone had learned to know and respect her for the many good qualities she possessed. She was a fond mother and carefully guided her children in upright paths and now that she is gone they have the comforting assurances that they did all they could for her happiness.
