Nellie J. Johnson, daughter of Anna and J.L. Johnson, was born March 2, 1905 in Bonaparte, Iowa. She was 85.
Nellie worked at the glove factory after graduation from Bonaparte High School. She later learned lynotyping at her brother Harold's print shop in Colorado. She worked in Pennsylvania and Michigan.
She was a 50-year member of Eastern Star, Magnolia Chapter, and was a member of the Central Presbyterian Church of Des Moines.
Surviving are a brother, Oscar of Flint, Michigan and nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were two sisters and four brothers.
She retired from the Register and Tribune Co. in Des Moines in 1962. She was a talented musician, and in her earlier years, played trumpet in the Bonaparte band under direction of George Simmons; also piano and organ for various organizations.
Graveside services are Thursday, July 12, 1990 at 1 p.m. in the Bonaparte Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Central Presbyterian Church of Des Moines.
