Arthur Albert McCarty, son of Thomas and Madeline Slutts McCarty, was born April 13, 1926 at Keosauqua and died Monday, September 24, 1990 at Lucas County Health Center, Chariton, at the age of 64.
He grew up and lived as a youth in Mt. Zion, served in the United States Navy during World War II, and later served in the United States Army.
He was a self-employed body and fender mechanic and had lived and worked the past several years in Lucas County, most recently in Williamson.
He married Virginia Scott, September 9, 1948. They were divorced in 1969.
Surviving are four sons, Roland of Williamson, Rickey of Harvey, and Allen and Mark of Chariton; three daughters, Kathey McGuire of Lorimor, Ptty Allen of Bussey, and Brenda McCarty of Lucus; 11 grandchildren and a great-grandson. Also surviving are six brothers, Robert of Sugar City, Colorado, Richard of Bonaparte, James and Gary of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Leslie of Pittsburg, and Donald of Monreo, Lousiana; and four sisters, Verna Coleman and LaVina Duncan of Bonaparte, Audrey Blue of Denver, Colorado and Carolyn Gaskell of Pittsburg. His parents preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held Thursday, September 27, 1990 at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua, with Reverend Bob Patterson officiating. Interment with military rites in charge of Beer-Barker Post 113, American Legion, was in Forbes Cemetery north of Keosauqua. A memorial has been established.
