Mary Elizabeth Proenneke, of Ponca City, died Sunday, January 14, 1990 in Clearwater, Kansas. She was 78 years old.
Born July 12, 1922 in Ponca, City, she was the daughter of Samuel Oliver and Nora Mae Choyce Allison. She received her education in Farmington where she graduated high school. She then attended the Madison Iowa Business College.
On May 23, 1937 she and Thomas R. Proenneke were married in Farmington. They made their first home in Farmington. Also, in 1937, she and Thomas returned to Ponca City from Farmington. She was employed as a bookkeeper for the First National Bank in Ponca City, Holiday Inn and Paul Lawrence Construction Company. She was a member of the First Methodist Church, the PEO club in Newkirk, Business and Professional Women's organization and Arabian Horse Club (NOS-KA). She enjoyed farming, sewing, needlework, cooking and horses.
Surviving are a son, Charles Proenneke of Ponca City; two daughters, Mrs. Dale (Sharyn) Morris and Mrs. Oran (Normae) Sullivan, both of Clearwater, Kansas; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband in 1986.
Services were held Wednesday, January 17, 1990 at the Chapel of the Chimes, Grace Memorial Chapel, with Dr. Robert Van House of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Grace Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements. Interment followed in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Proenneke's name to the Hospice of Ponca City, P.O. Box 2525, and to the Hospice of Wichita, 1831 Woodrow, Wichita, Kansas 67203.
