Myrtle Nelson dies at 96

Myrtle Nelson, 96, died at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday at Parkview Care Center, where she had lived for several years.

Private family services will be held Thursday at Raymond Funeral Home. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery at Birmingham. A memorial has been established to the Old Threshers Foundation in Mount Pleasant.

Mrs. Nelson was born June 12, 1891 in Henry County, the daughter of Albert and Margaret Roxanne Schirmer Hill. She lived north of Stockport for 36 years and had lived south of Fairfield since 1949 until moving to Parkview Care Center. She married Fred William Nelson Jan. 14, 1911. She was a member of Birmingham United Methodist Church and Lend-A-Hand Club.

Her husband, two sons, five sisters and a brother preceded her in death. Surviving are two granddaughters, Evelyn Pacha of Birmingham, Patricia Lewis of Elmira, N.Y., and four great-grandchildren.
