Doran F. Tisdale

Doran F. Tisdale, 40, of Milton died May 29, 1988, at home. Doran was born November 30, 1947, in Fairfield to Fred and Dorothy Umphrey Tisdale. He attended Fox Valley schools and was a 1970 graduate of Iowa State University with a degree in Farm Operations. He served in the United States Army, 101st Airborne Division at Ft. Campbell, Kentucky.

After leaving the service, Doran joined the brokerage firm of Edward D. jones and worked in Fairfield and Charles City. Later, he farmed in the Milton area. In 1982, he accepted an appointment as a confidential assistant to the Administrator of the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service in Washington, D.C. Most recently, Doran worked as a sales associate for Long and Foster Realty in Alexandria, Virginia.

Doran was actively involved in many community and civic organizations in the Milton area including the Russell-Strait Post 483 of the American Legion, the Milton Lion's Club, the Keosauqua Rotary Club, and 4-H Club. He was a certified First Responder. Doran was active in the Republican Party, serving in 1982 as Chairman of Van Buren County GOP Central Committee. He was a member of Grace United Baptist Church in Milton.

He is survived by his parents; two sisters, Donna (Mrs. Gary) Harrison of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, and Darla (Mrs. Dennis) Rahe of Carlinville, Illinois; one brother, Kurt (and wife Amy) of Washington, Illinois; a niece, Amy Rahe and a nephew, Camdem Harrison; and his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Umphrey, Birmingham. And a special mention of close friend Cheryl Zavodny, of Arlington, Virginia, for all she has done and meant to Doran.

A memorial service was held on Tuesday, May 31, at 2:00 P.M. at Grace United Methodist Church in Milton. Rev. Andrew Rubenking and Rev. Lester Terlouw officiating. The family suggests memorials be made to Russell Strait Legion, Milton United Methodist Church, and Iowa 4-H Foundation. Interment with military honors by Russell-Strait Post was in Sunnyside Cemetery, Milton. Arrangements were in charge of Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua.
