Hugh C. Whitney, 85 of Birmingham died at 8:06 a.m. June 17, 1987 at Jefferson County Hospital in Fairfield [IA}.
He was born January 21, 1902 in Bladensburg to Hubert and Clara Bailey Whitney. He was reared in Bladensburg and lived in Van Buren County all of his adult life. A farmer, he had worked at the Iowa Ordance Plant in Burlington during the 1940's and at Dexter Company in Fairfield until his retirement in 1970. He was a member of Free Methodist Church in Birmingham.
He married Catherine Bartholomew Sept. 24, 1925 in Bloomfield.
He is survived by his wife; four daughters, Barbara Muntz of Wichita, KS; Joyce Stokes of Birmingham, and Doris Bristo and Donna Godwin of Sacramento, Calif.; a son, Howard of Whitefish, Mont.; 17 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and a sister, Carol Halfety of Long Beach, Calif.
The service was at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 20 at Burch-Raymond Funeral Home in Birmingham, the Rev. Phil Campbell officiating. Burial was in Maple Hill Cemetery in Birmingham. A memorial has been established to Free Methodist Church.
