Mary Alice Wiley Rairden, age 61, Fairfield, died Tuesday, July 14, 1987 at 11:50 P.m. at the University Hospital in Iowa City. She was born May 23, 1926 in Van Buren County, the daughter of Henry and Elva Cox Bartholomew. She grew up in the Keosauqua area, lived in the Winchester community and in Birmingham until moving to Fairfield in December 1986. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church and was employed at Universal Producing Co. in Fairfield for over 20 years.
She was married to James Wiley who preceded her in death in 1979.
On August 29, 1986 she was married to W.D. Rairden in Memphis, MO. He survives along with her eight children: Jim Wiley of Orange Park, Fla., Norma Sheetz of Fairfield; Mick Wiley of Northboro, Mass.; Pat Wood of Audubon, IA.; Dave Wiley of Birmingham, Don Wiley of Torrington, Conn.; Fran Simons of Birmingham and Jane Smith of Fairfield; 17 grandchildren, six step-children and 14 step-grandchildren; one brother, Thomas Bartholomew of Birmingham; six sisters, Catherine Whitney of Birmingham; Bessie Roberts and Sophia Roberts, both of Winfield, Iowa; Noram White of Des Moines; Jessie Barrow of Keosauqua and Veda Myers of Newton, IA.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, July 17, 1987 at the Burch-Raymond Funeral Home in Birmingham, with Rev. Phil Campbell officiating. Burial was in the Winchester Cemetery near Stockport. A memorial has been established to the Lions Eye Bank, and may be left at the funeral home.
