Bessie Chloe Bartholomew Roberts, 79 of Winfield died Friday, April 26 [1991] at the Henry County Health Center in Mt. Pleasant [IA].

She was born August 9, 1911 in Van Buren County to Henry and Elva Cox Bartholomew. In 1935 she married Bryant W. Roberts.

She graduated from Keosauqua High School in 1929 and was a graduate of Iowa Wesleyan College in Mt. Pleasant with a Bachelor's of Arts Degree. She taught in country schools near Wyman for 28 years and in the Winfield schools for 22 years before retiring in 1974. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary at Winfield.

Survivors include two sons, Irvin B. Roberts, Winfield, and Richard N. Roberts, Camarillo, Calif.; a daughter, Mrs. Wanda [Monte] Miller, rural Wapello; 12 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; one brother, Thomas Bartholomew, Birmingham; and three sisters, Norma White and Catherine Whitney, both of Birmingham and Jessie Barrow, Keosauqua.

The service was held Monday, April 29, 1991 at 11 a.m. in the Weir Funeral Home with the Revs. Dean Swinson and Vernon Spiner officiating. Burial was in the Winfield Scott Township Cemetery.
