Chester J. Dorothy

Chester James Dorothy, 91, of Fairfield, died at 6:10 a.m. Oct. 1, 1987, at Jefferson County Hospital in Fairfield.

He was born July 11, 1896, near Stockport to James and Ellie Weaver Dorothy. He lived most of his life in Van Buren and Jefferson Counties and was a farmer, well digger and had retired as a government inspector from the ordinance plant in Burlington. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War I, and a member of Big Cedar Christian Church.

He married Erma Loving on June29, 1943. She died on May 23, 1981. He married Irene Seawalt on March 28, 1985, in Memphis, Mo.

He is survived by his wife, a daughter, Luella Keck of Fairfield, three stepdaughters, Marge Maddix of Sun City, Ariz., Virginia Poling of Fairfield, and Betty Schimmelpfenning of Batavia; a stepson, Robert White of Des Moines; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and a great-great grandchild; 11 step-grandchildren; three brothers, Raymond of Stockport, Floyd and Glen of Fairfield; and a sister, Nellie Mahon of Keosauqua.

The service was held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, 1987 at Behner Funeral Home, Fairfield, the Rev. Clair Odell officiating. Burial with military rites was in Glasgow Cemetery.

Memorials have been established to the Senior Citizens Site.
