Stanley E. Abolt

Stanley E. Abolt, 84, Route 2, West Point, died at 2:20 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17, at Burlington Medical Center after a brief illness.

Born Sept. 2, 1902, in Milton, he was the so of E.O. and Elizabeth Ruggles Abolt. He married Elizabeth Moeller June 11, 1924, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Fort Madison.

He was a lifelong resident of the West Point and St. Paul areas. He was a retired farmer and former vice president of the Farm Mutual Insurance Company of Donnellson. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church in St. Paul, the Senior Citizens of West Point, the Knights of Columbus of Houghton, and a fourth degree Knight of the Fort Madison Council.

Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth; four sons, William Abolt, Keokuk, John Abolt and Stanley D. Abolt, both of Fort Madison, and Jerry Abolt, West Point; five daughters, Mrs. Mary Jane (Charles) Harris, Burlington, Mrs. Joan (Herb) Holfeldt, Bettendorf, Mrs. Charlotte (Robert) Mettenberg, Donnellson, Mrs. Doris (Gene) Boeding, West Point, and Mrs. Helen (Dave) Hoenig, Fort Madison; five sisters, Mrs. Grace Steeples, Vallijo, Calif., Mrs. Marie Henkie, San Jose, Calif., Mrs. Verna Martin, Biggsville, Ill., Mrs. Lucille (Kenneth) Hart, Burlington, Mrs. Cecil (Maurice) Lamb, Riverton, Wis.; 37 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

A Daughters of Isabella rosary will be recited at 3 p.m. Thursday at the Link Funeral Home in West Point, and a combined Knights of Columbus and parish rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Services for Mr. Abolt will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. James Catholic Church in St. Paul with the Rev. Robert Striegel officiating. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery.

A memorial has been established. Contributions may be left at the funeral home.
