Leo W. Powell

Leo W. Powell, 71, of 2122 Avenue H, Fort Madison, died at 5:40 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 1, at University Hospitals Iowa City.

Born Nov. 19, 1915, at Chicago, Ill., he was the son of Leo W. and Mabel Marley Powell Sr. He married Dorothy C. Hundt June 25, 1938, in Fort Madison.

Mr. Powell owned and operated Powell Oil Co. for 50 years. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Fort Madison, the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, the Elks Club, and Petroleum Marketers of Iowa.

Surviving are his wife, Dorothy; one son, Leo Powell III, Keosauqua; three daughters, Mrs. Maureen (John) Morden, Oak Brook, Ill., Mrs. Karen (Greg) Orschelen, Lenexa, Kan., and Mrs. Carol (William) Minor, Lake Bluff, Ill.; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Friends may call after 2 p.m. today at the King-Lynk Funeral Home, Fort Madison. The rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.

Services for Mr. Powell will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Sacred Heart Church with the Rev. Robert Amborn officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
