Carl Van Order

Carl W. Van Order, 76, of the Illinois Veteran's Home, Quincy, Ill., formerly of Stronghurst, Ill., died at 9 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, at the Veteran's Hospital, Iowa City.

Born July 13, 1910, near Rushville, Ill, he was the son of Edward and Kathryn Conrad Van Order. He married Margaret Hale Feb. 2, 1933, in Macomb, Ill.

He was a lifelong resident of the Stronghurst area, moving to the Veteran's home in 1985. He had worked as a farmhand and was a custodian for the Southern School district for 10 years. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Surviving are his wife of the Montebello Manor Nursing Home, Hamilton, Ill.; one daughter, Wilma Phillips of Stronghurst; one son, Wayne Van Order of Canton, Ill.; two brothers, Ralph Van Order of Burlington, and Robert Van Order of Westmont, Ill.; four sisters, Violet Wheelhouse of Rushville; Margaret Quinn of Beardstown, Ill., Faye Steele of Gary, Ind., and Edna Wright of Farmington; six grandchildren; two stepgrandsons; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.

Friends may call any time today at Banks & Beals Funeral Home, Stronghurst.

Services for Mr. Van Order will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Stronghurst Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for Alzheimer's Disease Research.
