Harry Chezum rites Saturday

Services for Harry L. Chezum, 65, Route 3, who died Monday afternoon in Brookelane, Texas, will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Raymond Funeral Home with the Rev. George Koch officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery at Birmingham. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. A memorial has been established to the children's department of the Fairfield Public Library.

Chezum was born July 19, 1921 in Fairfield, the son of Glen and Minnie Arnold Chezum. He grew up in Fairfield, married Sue Brobston Oct. 2, 1937 in Davenport, and worked at John Deere in East Moline, Ill., before retiring to Fairfield in 1946. The family operated restaurants in Fairfield for 20 years. Harry was a self-employed carpenter and worked as a plumber with Harold Lamb, retiring in 1977. He served with the U.S. Army in the European Theater during World War II, and was a member of VFW.

Surviving are his wife; three sons, Joe of Iowa City, Allen of Des Moines, Steve of Denver, Colo.; eight grandchildren; three sisters, Ruth Schneider, Emma Yeoman, both of Fairfield, Betty Mowery of Rock Island, Ill.; three brothers, Ralph of Fairfield, Donald of Knoxville, Ill., and John of Viola, Ill. His parents and three sisters preceded him in death.
