Graveside services for Vernon

Mildred E. Vernon, 92, died Wednesday evening at Parkview Care Center. She had been in failing health for several months.

She was born Feb. 20, 1895 at Delta, the daughter of Benjamin and Pearl Fair Eastburn. She was raised and educated in the Delta community and married Rex O. Vernon on Oct. 25, 1916.

They lived in Fairfield for 12 years and in Keosauqua for 20 years. They owned and operated the Vernon Variety Stores in Fairfield and Keosauqua.

Mrs. Vernon was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and American Legion Auxiliary.

She is survived by a son, Robert, Fairfield; a granddaughter, Shelley Shelangoski; two great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, one daughter and one brother.

Graveside services for Mrs. Vernon will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Garrett Cemetery near Delta with the Rev. Robert Gate officiating. Memorials may be made to the activity fund at Parkview Care Center. Friends may call after 4 p.m. today at Raymond Funeral Home.
