Winifred Whitmore Overstreet

Winifred Whitmore Overstreet, retired Evanston teacher died Thursday, April 9 at the Mather Home for Retired Professional Women, in Evanston, Ill.

Mrs. Overstreet was born in Keosauqua, Iowa May 1, 1901, the daughter of Gerry E. and Flora Schmidt Whitmore. She live in Fairfield, Iowa most of her childhood years, moving to Oak Park, Ill., where she finished high school. After two years of attendance at Parsons College in Fairfield, she earned her degrees in education at Northwestern University in Evanston. Her teaching career spanned 39 years. She collaborated in writing a math textbook, was an active member of the American Assn. of University Women, and was a member on the First Church of Christ-Scientist in Evanston where she taught a Sunday School class for many years.

She is survived by one brother, Roscoe Whitmore of Libertyville, Iowa and two sisters, Evaline Bugeon of Mountain Home, Ark., and Marie Greenfield of Douds, Iowa and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Overstreet, and one brother and one sister.

A memorial service was held in the Mather Home Chapel at 3 p.m. on April 15, 1987.

Memorials may be sent to Mather Home, 1615 Hinman Ave., Evanston, Ill. or to the First Church of Christ-Scientist, 610 Grove Ave., Evanston.
