Lena M. Kreiss

Lena M. Kreiss, daughter of Hervey and Eliza Cole Thomas, was born April 28, 1917 in the Pittsburg community and departed this life the morning of Friday, April 17, 1987 at University Hospital in Iowa City at the age of 69.

Lena lived her early life in Van Buren County and had lived a number of years at the Mental Health Institute. She was a psychiatric aide and physical therapist. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary No. 2561.

She married John Kreiss in 1961 at Kahoka, Missouri. He survives. Also surviving are four children by a previous marriage, Donald D. Price, DeWitt, and Larry L. Price, Patricia A. Marlow and Susan K. Stairs, all of Mt. Pleasant; nine grandchildren; three sisters, Esther Ewing, Bonaparte, Josephine Guarnery, St. Louis, Missouri, and Gladys Haynes, Wentzville, Missouri and two brothers, Stanley Thomas, Fruita, Colorado and Sherman Thomas, Shingle Springs, California.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 21 at 10:30 a.m. in First United Methodist Church, Mt. Pleasant with Rev. Ron Kramer officiating. Graveside services and interment were in Fellows Cemetery, Keosauqua, with Rev. Don Morrison officiating. A memorial was established for East Lake Park in Mt. Pleasant for which Lena chose the name. Memorials may be sent in care of Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua, or Patricia Marlow, 700 East Monroe, Mt. Pleasant, 52641.
