FAIRFIELD - Helen Vivian Carter, 78, of Wayland died 12:32 a.m. May 10, 1987, at University Hospitals in Iowa City.

She was born June 2, 1908, in Batavia to William and Alice Rodabaugh Hunt. A 1927 Batavia High School graduate, she attended Parsons College in Fairfield and received her bachelor's degree from Iowa Wesleyan College in Mount Pleasant. For 38 years she taught school in Jefferson County, Douds, Leando, Waylan(?) and Avoca. She retired in 1974 and moved to Fairfield where she resided until 1986, moving to Parkview Home in Wayland. She was a member of Church of Brethern in Libertyville and was a life member of Iowa Teacher's Association. She married Lloyd W. Carter in 1931 in Batavia.

She is survived by a son, Leonard A. Carter of Albuquerque, N.M.; three grandchildren; a great-grandchild; two brothers, Ivo Hunt of Batavia and Dr. Van Hunt of Mason City; and a sister, Elevena McIntire of Fairfield.

The service will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Church of the Brethern, the Rev. George Koch officiating. Burial in the Church of the Brethren.

Visitation will be 7-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Behner Funeral Home.

Memorials have been established to Parkview Home in Wayland and her church.
