Artie Carpenter

Artie M. Carpenter, 76, of 1024 Railroad Street died at 11 a.m. April 25, 1987, at Ottumwa Regional Health Center.

She was born Jan. 5, 1911, in Adair County, Mo., to Benjamin B. and Emma Moore Campbell. An Ottumwa resident since 1934, she was a member of the Christian Church in Hilltown. She married Paul Carpenter on Feb. 23, 1941. He died on Dec. 9, 1984.

She is survived by four sons, Jerry, Larry, Jim and Gary Carpenter of Ottumwa; a grandson; five brothers, Paul and William Campbell of rural Centerville, Esco Campbell of Milton, Ruben Campbell of rural Blakesburg and Jim Campbell of Ottumwa; a sister, Leonis Cohagan of Ottumwa.

The service will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Reece Funeral Home, the Rev. A.D. Pringle of Ottumwa Baptist Temple officiating. Burial will be in Ottumwa Cemetery.

The family will be at the funeral home from 7-8:30 p.m. today.

Honorary pallbearers will be DeVerne O. Houk, Harry Durflinger, Roger Archer, David Harland, Lowell Fuller, Stve Campbell, Lonnie Haines, C.D. Huffman, Larry Reisch, and Gene Ball.

Active pallbearers will be John Lawson, L.E. "Buzz" Handling, Bill Gayer, Tom Hull, Gary L. Houk, Steve Houk, Dwaine and Dwight Stewart.

A memorial has been established to the American Lung Association.
