Leon "Moon" Mullins

Leon F. "Moon" Mullins, 67, of Carthage, Ill. died at 7:37 p.m. Tuesday, June 9, 1987 in the emergency room of Carthage Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Mullins was born Feb. 5, 1920, in Blairsville, a son of Bert and Ethel Pollard Mullins. He married Erma Fishback, who died in April, 1983. He married Helen Jacob Aug. 24, 1985. She survives.

Mr. Mullins was a former Keosauqua resident and worked at Archies. He had lived in Carthage for 26 years. He was a retired meat cutter at Bills IGA in Carthage and was a janitor at Marine Trust Co. at the time of his death. He was a member of the Carthage Christian Church; the Carthage Golf Association; and the Western Illinois Golf Association. He was a veteran of World War II and a member of Carthage Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5117.

Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Alan (Deborah) Holder of Normal; two step-daughters, Mrs. Andrew (Theresa) Redenius of Carthage and Mrs. Roger (Mary Ann) Long of Quincy; a son, Larry of Hamilton; two stepsons, Donald Jacob of rural Carthage and Darrell Jacob of Carthage; two sisters, Mrs. Herschel (Thelma) Smith of St. Louis, Mo., and Mrs. Jack (Wanda) Rybolt of Concord, Calif.; five grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife.

Services were held Friday, June 12 in Lamporte Funeral Home in Carthage by the Rev. Phil Nevius. Burial was in Moss Ridge Cemetery. Military services were conducted by VFW Post. Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.
