Harlan W. "Judge" Buckles

Harlan W. "Judge" Buckles, son of Edgar and Ethel Saylor Buckles, was born May 17, 1908 in Van Buren County near Troy and departed this life early the morning of Saturday, September 19, 1987 at Van Buren County Memorial Hospital, Keosauqua, at the age of 78.

He was a retired farmer and school bus driver, and lived his life in the Troy community.

He was a member of the Troy Odd Fellows and Rebekah lodges, a charter member of the Troy Academy Historical Society and the Illiamo National Model T Club of America and a member of the Southeast Iowa Antique Car Club.

He married Verla Chaplin July 2, 1932.

She survives along with their two daughters, Ronda Mae Curtis of Troy and Margaret Ann Crowe of Des Moines, four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and two step-great-grandchildren.

His parents and a brother, Ellsworth, preceded him in death.

The body was cremated. Memorial services were held Tuesday, September 22, 1987 at 10:30 a.m. at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua, with Reverend Alan Birr and Reverend Carl Wilson officiating. Interment was in Troy Cemetery. A memorial was established for the Troy Academy.
