Hazel M. Carpenter

Hazel M. Carpenter, 64, of Bonaparte died Sept. 13, 1987, at Van Buren County Memorial Hospital in Keosauqua.

She was born Aug. 13, 1923, near Batavia to Emery and Rosa Clark Franklin. She grew up near Batavia, lived 18 years in West Virginia and the past 21 years in Bonaparte. She married Lloyd Carpenter on Nov. 14, 1945 in Columbus, Ga. He died Sept. 18, 1986.

She is survived by three daughters, Susan Herrin of Gulfport, Miss., Virginia Black of Parkersburg, W. Va., and Kitty Wixom of Fort Madison; three sons, Jerry Sylvester of Bethel Islands, Calif., Thomas Carpenter of Keosauqua, and Melvin Carpenter of Stockport; 22 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren; and a half brother, Lloyd Morgan of Winfield.

She was preceded in death by two sons and a daughter. The service was Tuesday at Bonaparte Baptist Church, Robert Dodds officiating. Burial was in Brethren Cemetery near Batavia.

Memorials have been established.

Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua was in charge of arrangements.
