Loyd H. Smith

Lloyd H. Smith, so of William and Florence Ward Smith, was born November 2, 1909 at Dakota City, Iowa and departed this life early the morning of Monday, July 27, 1987 at Veterans Administration Medical Center in Iowa City at the age of 77.

He was a European combat veteran of World War II, farmed near Memphis, Missouri, and was employed as a lineman for the Southern Iowa Electric Coop at Bloomfield for many years. He set the first electric line pole in rural Davis County when electricity came to the rural area.

On June 10, 1941, he married Luella Kent at Lancaster, Missouri. They lived near Memphis, in Keokuk and Ottumwa, and in Milton since 1982.

Surviving are his wife; two sons, Raymond of Upland, California and Wendell of Donnellson; a son-in-law, Glenwood Nye of Keokuk; five grandchildren; a sister, Marvel Hawkins of Dakota City and three brothers, Frank Smith of Whittemore, Paul Pierce of Longmont, Colorado and Jack Dickerson of Wichita, Kansas. A daughter, Katherine Nye of Keokuk, passed away May 16, 1987.

Graveside services were held Thursday, August 6, 1987 at 11 a.m. in the National Cemetery at Keokuk with Reverend Glen Willier officiating. Military rites were in charge of the Keokuk service organizations. Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua, was in charge of arrangements.
