Mary I. Thornton

Mary I. Thornton, 91, of 1903 Avenue G, Fort Madison, died unexpectedly 1:15 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 3, 1987, at her home.

Born Nov. 6, 1895, in Lee County, she was the daughter of Ira B. and Anna Whitehouse Ross. She married Jesse James Thornton March 14, 1914, in Fort Madison. He died Dec. 19, 1970.

She had lived the past 20 years in Fort Madison. She was a homemaker and a member of the Christian Church of Hillsboro.

Surviving are three sons, William Thornton, Fort Madison, Roger Thornton, Pleasanton, Calif., and Ross Thornton, El Monte, Calif.; one daughter, Mrs. Eleanor Casady, Keokuk; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may ball until time of service at Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison.

The service for Mrs. Thornton will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison, with Rev. Gordon McMillan officiating. Burial will be in Hillsboro Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for the Iowa Heart Association.
