Hazel M. Carpenter

Hazel M. Carpenter, 64, Bonaparte, died at 5:30 a.m. Sunday, September 13, 1987 at Van Buren County Memorial Hospital, Keosauqua.

She was born August 13, 1923, near Batavia, Iowa. She had lived in Bonaparte 21 years, moving there rom West Virginia where she had lived for 18 years.

On November 4, 1945, at Columbus, Georgia, she was married to Lloyd Carpenter, who preceded her in death.

She was also preceded in death by two sons, a daughter, a half brother, a half sister and two grandchildren. Her parents were Emery and Rosa Clark Franklin.

Surviving are three sons, Jerry Sylvester, Bethel Islands, California, Thomas Carpenter, Keosauqua, and Melvin Carpenter, Stockport; three daughters, Susan Herrin, Gulfport, Mississippi, Virginia Black, Parkersburg, West Virginia, and Kitty Wixom, Fort Madison; a half brother, Lloyd Morgan, Winfield, Iowa; 11 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, September 15, 1987 at the Bonaparte Baptist Church, Pastor Bob Dodds officiated. Burial was in Brethren Cemetery near Batavia.

A memorial is being established. Contributions may be made at the Pedrick Funeral Home.
