Leah E. Gerber

Leah Esther (Gregg) Gerber, 91, of Lowell, died at 1:45 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19, at the Good Samaritan Center, Keosauqua.

Born March 9, 1895, near Fort Madison, she was the daughter of Waldo and Bertha Scholz Gregg. She married Ray E. Gerber April 4, 1922, at Fort Madison; he died July7, 1977.

She was a graduate of the Fort Madison Business College. She had lived in Lowell for 56 years. She was a charter member of the Lowell Together Federated Club for 63 years.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Bertha Thornburg, rural Keosauqua, and Mrs. Elsie Williams, Lowell; one son, Darrell Gerber, York, Pa.; one sister, Lucille Chambers, Ocala, Fla.; five grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and eight step-great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Elliott Chapel, New London.

Services for Mrs. Gerber will be 2 p.m. Friday at Elliott Chapel with the Rev. James Edwards officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Fort Madison.

A memorial for the Lowell Street Light Fund has been established.
