Hazel Edna Ballard

Hazel Edna Ballard, 70, of the Fort Madison Nursing Care Center, died at 12:25 a.m. Sunday, July 6, at the care center.

Born Sept. 30, 1915, in Junction Township of Green County, she was the daughter of James Benjamin and Mary Alice Naylor Smith. She married Frank Wayne Ballard Dec. 1, 1935, in Beaver; he died in 1960.

She was an employee of the W.A. Sheaffer Pen Company, retiring in 1978 after 23 years of service. She was a former member of the Eagles Auxiliary and the U.A.W. Local 1551. She was an avid bowler. She was a Baptist.

Surviving are four sons, James, Nashville, Tenn., Ronald and Larry, both of Fort Madison, and David, Farmington; one daughter, Mrs. Karen (Gerald) Wilson, rural Fort Madison; one sister, Mrs. Dorothy (John) Waters, Grand Junction; 15 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Services for Mrs. Ballard will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison, with the Rev. Marvin Potter officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.
