Asa Zeitler rites Wednesday

DOUDS - Asa D. Zeitler, 90, died Saturday night in his home south-west of Douds.

The son of James H. and Ella L. Brooks Zeitler, he was born March 5, 1896, in Van Buren County. He was a graduate of Keosauqua High School and taught in several rural schools. He married Ruby Buckles July 5, 1919, at Fairfield. She died in 1982. The couple lived their married life on the same farm in Van Buren County.

Zeitler was a member of Bethel Free Methodist Church of rural Douds, the American Legion John Hyson Reneker Post No. 494 and was a World War I veteran.

He is survived by two sons, Donald of Douds, and Charles of Bennett, Colo.; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Ada Lazenby of Keosauqua and Clara Law of Troy.

Including his wife, Zeitler was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Vonda.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Bethel Free Methodist Church with the Rev. Phil Campbell officiating. Burial will be in Troy Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7-8 p.m. tonight at Pedrick Funeral Home.

Memorials may be left at the funeral home.
