Rites Wednesday for Loomis

DOUDS - Clyde E. Loomis, 84, of Douds died Sunday evening at University Hospitals in Iowa City.

He was born Nov. 21, 1901 at Leando, the son of James and Emma Brown Loomis. He grew up in Douds, graduated from Douds High School in 1920 and was employed at the former Iowa Savings Bank in Douds.

Loomis lived a year in Burlington and 40 years in Omaha, Nev., where he was an accountant. He retired to Douds in 1970.

He was a member and former trustee of Christ United Methodist Church, secretary of Starlight Lodge No. 350 K of P and the Douds Community Club, a member of Douds Temple No. 104, Pythian Sisters, a village trustee, trustee of the Leando Cemetery and served on the local election board.

Loomis married Vera Samuels Dec. 6, 1920 at Douds. She survives. Also surviving are four daughters, Dorothy Rathbun, Geraldine Knudsen and Margaret Wolf, all of Omaha, Neb., and Patricia Lancaster of Denton, Texas; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A son, Clyde Jr., died in World War II.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Christ United Methodist Church in Douds with the Revs. Stephen Conte and Harold Harryman officiating. Burial will be in in Leando Cemetery. Memorials may be made to his church. Friends may call at their convenience at Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds.
