Verne Bagby

BIRMINGHAM - Verne Bagby, 87, formerly of Birmingham, died at 11:50 a.m. Oct. 14, 1986, at the Good Samaritan Center in Keosauqua.

He was born Nov. 8, 1898, near Cantril to James Owen and Mary Warning Bagby. He was reared and educated in the Stockport and Cantril communities. He farmed near Stockport until 1974, when he moved to Birmingham. He was a member of Birmingham Methodist Church and the Eagles Club. He married Faye Filson Feb. 26, 1948, at the Little Brown Church. She died Feb. 16, 1986.

He is survived by two stepdaughters, Mildred Overlander and Nola Harlan of Stockport; a stepson, Sheldon Headley of Kewanee, Ill.; 11 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Chester of Stockport, and Frank Sr. of Fairfield; and a sister, Zella Keller of Fairfield.

The services will be 2 p.m. today at Birmingham Methodist Church, the Rev. Duane Olsen officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery in Birmingham.

Memorials may be made to Birmingham Methodist Church or the Birmingham First Responders.

Burch-Raymond Funeral Home in Birmingham is in charge of arrangements.
