Verna Ardella McKeehan

Verna Ardella McKeehan, 89, of Birmingham died at 11:45 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 19, 1999, at Jefferson County Hospital.

A funeral service will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Raymond Funeral Home in Birmingham with the Rev. Reva Rimmer officiating. Burial will be in Sharon Cemetery near Donnellson. The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials have been established to Stockport United Methodist Church and to Heartland Humane Society in Ottumwa.

Mrs. McKeehan was born Jan. 8, 1910, near Donnellson, the daughter of LeRoy and Emma Huff Leazer. She married Evett J. McKeehan Feb. 16, 1935, at Sharon Presbyterian Church. He died Dec. 23, 1998.

She grew up in the Primrose community in Lee County. she and her husband farmed east of Stockport until moving to the Birmingham community 25 years ago.

She was a homemaker and worked as a cook at the Stockport school for a few years. She was a member of the Stockport United Methodist Church, Bonnett School Ladies Aid Society and bowled in leagues in Keosauqua and Fairfield.

Survivors include one son, Larry McKeehan of Lockridge; two daughters, Pauline Spees of Birmingham and Darlene Roberts of Agency; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son; and one brother, Merle Leazer.
