Virgil Bailey rites Saturday

FLORIS - Virgil C. Bailey, 94, retired farmer of rural Floris, died at 10 p.m. Thursday at Van Buren County Memorial Hospital, Keosauqua.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds with the Rev. John Cuter officiating. Burial will be in Heidelbaugh Cemetery north of Troy. Friends may call at their convenience at the funeral home, where memorials to the American Cancer Society may be left.

Bailey was born Aug. 16, 1892 at Novinger, Mo., the son of James and Emma Hudson Bailey. He married Ruth Boyce Oct. 26, 1915 at Letts. They lived near Muscatine in Mercer County, Ill., and moved to Douds-Floris area in 1941. Mrs. Bailey died in 1976. A daughter and several brothers and sisters also preceded him in death.

Surviving are four sons, former Fairfield resident Robert of Anadarko, Okla., Allen, James and John, all of Floris; six daughters, Dorothy Sneddon, Virgilene Kammerer, Mary Ellis, all of Muscatine, Betty Foor of Houma, La., Ruth Wonders of Wapello, Emma Strawhacker of Bloomfield; 54 grandchildren; a number of great-grandchildren; a brother, Homer of Muscatine; two sisters, Mae Sparks of Kirksville, Mo., and June Wallace of Novinger, Mo.

Bailey was a member of Bethel Free Methodist Church south of Douds.
