L.H. Brown

Dr. L.H. Brown, 89, of 721 S. First Ave., Apt. 328, died Monday at the Veteran's Hospital in Grand Island.

Services will be Wednesday at 9:20 a.m. in the All Saints Chapel in Hastings with the Rev. W.C. Westman officiating. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. at Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell.

Dr. Brown was born Jan. 14, 1897, in Keosauqua, Iowa. He graduated from Iowa State University in 1923 with a doctor of veterinary medicine degree. He had practices in Elkhorn, Denison, Iowa, and Schleswig, Iowa. He was affiliated with the Hastings Animal Clinic for 10 years and was the first veterinarian to start artificial insemination of dairy cattle west of the Mississippi.

A World War I Navy veteran who raised and drove harness race horses, he moved to Hastings in 1971 from Mesa, Ariz.

He was a member of the Elkhorn School Board, Douglas County Fair Board, Denison town council, World War I Barricks, American Legion, Midwest Lodge No. 317, Scottish Rite and the Tehema Temple.

Survivors include his wife, Thelma of Hastings; two daughters, Mrs. Lou (Marge) Reimer of Grand Island and Mrs. Bob (Maureen) Greenwell of Omaha; two brothers, Laverne of Stockport, Iowa, and Dale of Hillsboro, Iowa; five sisters, Florence Keller of Fairfield, Iowa, Vera Knowles, Mrs. Carl (Irene) Tompkins and Mrs. Eldon (Edna) Briden, all of Stockport, and Mrs. Boyd (Marie) Kisling of Keosauqua; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

BROWN, Dr. L.H., of 721 South 1st Avenue, Apt. 328, passed away Monday, August 25, 1986, in the Veterans Hospital at Grand Island, 89 years old. Survived by his wife, Thelma; two daughters and sons-in-law, Marge and Lou Reimer of Grand Island, Maureen and Bob Greenwell of Omaha four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Laverne of Stockport, Ia., Dale of Hillsboro, Ia.; five sisters, Florence Keller of Fairfield, Ia., Vera Knowles, Mrs. Carl (Irene) Tompkins, Mrs. Eldon (Edna) Briden, all of Stockport, Ia., Mrs. Boyd (Marie) Kisling of Keosauqua, Ia. Preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Forest Brown. Services will be Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. in the All Saints Chapel with Rev. W.C. Westman officiating. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. in the Fort McPherson Cemetery at Maxwell. Memorials may be given to the Senior Center at Good Samaritan Village or the Mary Lanning Hospice Program.
