Bertha Smith

DOUDS - Bertha C. Smith of Creston died July 22, 1986, at the hospital in Creston.

She was born May 22, 1903, in Douds to Levi T. and Mary Heger Plowman. She taught junior and senior high scholls for 40 years in Douds, Mt. Ayr, Creston and Council Bluffs. She was a lifetime member of ISEA and was active in the Retired Teachers' Association. She was a member of a teachers' sorority and the United Methodist Church, where she was active in church-related organizations. She married Raymond Smith on Oct. 3, 1931, in Ottumwa.

She is survived by her husband of Creston; and a brother, Theodore Plowman of Douds. She was preceded in death by a son, Elwin.

The service was held 11 a.m. Thursday at Coen-Beaty Funeral Home in Creston. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery in Mt. Ayr.
