Rachel I. Adams, 79, of Ames, Iowa died Wednesday, July 2, 1986 at Mary Greeley Medical Center. Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, July 7 at Adams Funeral Home with the Rev. Arthur E. Sundstrom, Collegiate Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial was in Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Rachel Bonnell was born February 8, 1907 in Dover to Albert and Ida (Bargar) Bonnell. She graduated from Ames High School in 1924 and from Iowa State College in 1929 with a degree in home economics. She worked as a social worker in Chicago, Illinois following her college graduation. On October 1, 1930, she married Ted R. Adams in Chicago, Illinois.

She taught high school in Farmington for several years. After moving to Ames in 1954 she was employed as a secretary in the music extension department at ISU from 1954 until her retirement in 1972.

Survivors include a son, Marc Adams of Chesapeake, Virginia; a daughter, Julia Dale of Greenville, Mississippi; two brothers, Rollin Bonnell of Broken Bow, Nebraska; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, January 29, 1973, a brother, and four sisters.

Memorials may be given to the Iowa Historical Museum Foundation, 300 E. Maple Street, Des Moines, Iowa 50309.
