Evelyn Jean McDowell

BIRMINGHAM - Evelyn Jean McDowell, 63 of Birmingham, died at 7:11 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11, 1991, from injuries sustained in a two-car accident at the Brookville corner in Jefferson County.

The service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Birmingham United Methodist Church with the Rev. Sara Malone officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery. Visitation is open at Burch-Raymond Funeral Home. Family visitation will be from 7 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. A memorial has been established.

Mrs. McDowell was born Jan. 30, 1928, in Fairfield, the daughter of Cloyce Virgil and Sarah Verle McCleary Hyde. She grew up in
Fairfield and graduated from Fairfield High School. She married E.H. "Jiggs" McDowell on Sept. 2, 1948, in Fairfield. She was a dental hygienist in Fairfield for Dr. Albert H. Singley for several years. She was a member of Birmingham United Methodist Church, Birmingham United Methodist Women and American Legion Auxiliary. She lived her entire married life in the Birmingham community.

Surviving are her husband; two sons, Roger of Mount Pleasant, Mike of Birmingham; two daughters, Roberta Scovel of Richland, Marla Faga of Victor; 10 grandchildren; two sisters, Gwen Smith of Burlington, Sandra McGhee of Des Moines; a stepbrother, Larry Anderson of Des Moines and a stepsister, Bev Wilson of Cedar Rapids. Her parents and a grandchild preceded her in death.
