FRANCES M. HUGHES

Frances M. Hughes, daughter of Arthur J. and Carla Brown Hayden, was born Sept. 5, 1915 near Selma and died early the morning of Wednesday, Sept. 17, 1986 at Ottumwa Regional Health Care Center at the age of 71.

She lived her entire life in the Selma community, graduating from Selma High School in 1932.

She married Garold G. Hughes August 19, 1934 at her parents' home.

Frances was a life-time active member of the Selma United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women, had held numerous church offices and had been church organist and had been church organist and director of music most of her adult life. She shared her musical talent with young people through the giving of private piano and organ lessons.

Remaining are her husband, Garold, a daughter Jeanne Wainscott and her husband, James, of Fresno, Calif., a son, Arden and his wife, Karen, of Selma, five grandsons, David Wainscott and his wife, Sonya: Bruce Wainscott and his wife, Anita; Mark Hughes and his wife, Karen; and Todd Hughes, a brother Rex Hayden and his wife, Ruth of Eldon, and other relatives.

Funeral services were held Friday, Sept. 19, 1986 at 1:30 p.m. in the Selma United Methodist Church, with Rev. Stephen Conte and Rev. Chris Daniel officiating. Interment was in Iowaville Cemetery near Selma.

Pedrick Funeral Home, Douds was in charge of arrangements. A memorial was established to her church.
