Clifford Shelangoski

Clifford Shelangoski, 77, of Birmingham died at 2:40 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, 1991, at the Van Buren County Hospital emergency room.

He was born Aug. 26, 1914, at Richmond, the son of Ignatius and Helena Florang Shelangoski. He lived in the Washington, Iowa, and Packwood communities before moving to Birmingham 34 years ago.

Shelangoski married Helen Heston on March 4, 1943, at Rock Island, Ill. He worked in the foundry at The Dexter Company for 25 years until he retired and was a member of the St. Mary Catholic Church.

Surviving are his wife; three sons, Ernie, Glen and Wayne, all of Fairfield; five daughters, Cheryl Sprouse of Fairfield, Marilyn Powell of Las Vegas, Nev., Shirley Shelangoski of Milpitas, Calif., Beverly Taylor of Atlantic Beach, Fla., and Judy Shelangoski of San Jose, Calif.; 19 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert of Brighton and Lloyd of Davenport; and one sister, Modesta Deutsch of Brighton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter and one sister, Rita Lahr.

The funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary Catholic Church, the Rev. William Sullivan officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery at Birmingham.

Prayers for a Christian Wake will be recited at 7 p.m. recited at 7 p.m. Sunday at Burch-Raymond Funeral Home in Birmingham, followed by family visitation at 7:1 p.m.

Memorials have been established to the Birmingham Fire Department, the Birmingham Homecoming Committee or Mass stipends.
