Berniece Barbee

Berniece Barbee, daughter of Henry and Rose Williams Jockisch, was born March 11, 1914 near Beardstown, Ill., and died early Monday morning, Sept. 1, 1986 at Van Buren County Memorial Hospital, Keosauqua at the age of 72.

She married Oscar Barbee in Virginia, Ill. They moved to Van Buren County, Iowa in 1945. They farmed near Birmingham and later moved to Keosauqua where she was employed at Van Buren County Memorial Hospital and McCoy Insurance Service. She had been a member of Kilbourn Ladies Aid. Remaining are her husband, Oscar, two sons, Orville and his wife, Gwen of Van Meter and Gene and his wife, Sharon of Roswell, New Mexico. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Tony and Kent Barbee and Nicole Thompson, two great grandchildren, Christopher and Gwen Anne Thompson, three brothers, Homer Jockisch, Shipman, Ill., Lloyd Jockisch, Godfrey, Ill., and Clifford Jockisch, Riverton, Ill., a sister, Ann Hayes, Akron, Ohio, other relatives and friends.

Five brothers and sisters preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Sept. 4, 1986 at 10:30 a.m. at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua, with Rev. Bob Patterson officiating. Interment was in Maple Hill Cemetery, Birmingham. A memorial was established for the Van Buren County Memorial Hospital.
