Dr. Kenneth E. Lister

A memorial service was held July 15 in Ottumwa for Dr. Kenneth E. Lister, who preformed many surgical procedures at Van Buren County Memorial Hospital before his retirement in 1981.

Dr. Lister, 71, died of a respiratory ailment on July 12, 1986 at Ottumwa Regional Health Center.

Starting early in the 1900s, Dr. Lister served as a surgical consultant to Memorial Hospital, making many trips to Keosauqua for nearly 20 years.

He was a native of Lineville and a graduate of Simpson College and the University of Iowa College of Medicine. he was an Army doctor during World War II and started his practice in Ottumwa in 1948.

Dr. Lister was a former president of the Iowa Medical Society, a diplomat of the American Board of Surgery and a fellow of the American College of Surgery.

Survivors in lude his mother, Maude Lister of Des Moines; a daughter, Marta Lister of Las Vegas, Nevada; a son, David of Glendale, California; three sisters, Doris Dull of Ottumwa, Dee Lott of Manson, and Marilyn Welin of Alexandria, Virginia; a brother, Keith of San Diego, California.
