Rites for Lena Ward Monday.

BATAVIA - Lena G. Ward, 74, of Batavia died Friday morning at Sunnyslope Care Center in Ottumwa.

She was born Sept. 10, 1911 in Enders, Neb., the daughter of Edd and Lurie Horne Jeffrey and had spent her life in the Birmingham and Batavia communities.

She was a member of the Southeastern Iowa Kennel Club and attended Peoples Church north of Batavia. Her marriage to Dr. R.L. Ward took place Oct. 11, 1952 in Jay, Okla. He died Jan. 20, 1981.

Surviving are one daughter, Louise McWhirter of Batavia; four grandchildren; one sister, Cora Brown, Mystic; three brothers, Van Jeffrey, Omaha, Neb.; Ralph Jeffrey, Fairfield; Roscoe, Stockport.

She was preceded in death by her husband, two grandchildren and four brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Campbell Funeral Chapel in Batavia with the Rev. Kermit Black officiating. Burial will be in the Batavia Cemetery. A memorial to the Batavia Senior Citizens Community Center has been established.

Visitation will be from 7-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral chapel.
