JAMES R. HOOTMAN

James Russell Hootman, son of Jacob D. and Bessie Canaday Hootman, was born April 30, 1912 near Birmingham and departed this life the morning of Wednesday, May 21, 1986 at Jefferson County Hospital, Fairfield, at the age of 74.

On May 15, 1935 he married Marybelle Baker. Most of their married life has been spent in the Selma-Douds area. She survivies.

Also surviving are two daughters, Donna Copeland of Douds and Mary Alice Linge of Washington; a son, Kriss of Douds; five grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; 16 step-great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Laughlin of Douds; two brothers, Hollis, Ollie and J.J. of Floris. A sister, Zelda Brewer preceded him in death.

Jim worked many years for the Van Buren County Highway Department, retiring as a foreman for the crew at Douds. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of John Hyson Reneker Post No. 494, American Legion and Celestial Lodge No. 413, Ancient and Free and Accepted Masons, both of Douds.

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 24, 1986 at 1:30 p.m. at Pedrick Funeral Home, Douds with Rev. Harold Harryman and Rev. Walter Shuka officiating. Interment was in Zion Lutheran Cemetery near Douds.
